Colorado Celebrates 30 Years and Hosts International Workshop
We celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Colorado branch under sunny, warm skies with 89 participants at an International Workshop June 24 through 26.
To kick off a great weekend, the group was treated to a salmon dinner by the cooking crew on Friday night. Members reunited, chatted and enjoyed each other’s company. Foundations and a set of Taoist Tai Chi™ settled us down for the night and prepared us for a 12-hour day Saturday.
Tony Kwong led the group as we reviewed the dan-yu and tor-yu. We had ample time to practice what we learned in our small groups. Everyone worked hard as Tony walked quietly around the practice hall providing individual instruction.
Between these foundations, we reviewed the set. We started from the beginning and focused on improving and deepening our form. We reviewed the first 17 moves and played with shuttles. The group sweated, read glowed, while moving lots of chi!
The kitchen crew sweated hard also. Our Colorado team was generously supported by members from Florida and Oregon. An African dish called Chicken Mafe rejuvenated workshop participants after the morning session, and we gobbled up an exemplary pecan-encrusted trout plate for dinner. We cut a fruit-filled cake and shared crispy rice treats playfully molded into a monkey shape to honor Tony’s birthday and the year of the fire monkey.
To honor the 30th anniversary branch leaders gave a historical recap of the growth, development and changes we’ve experienced together. The USA leaders also kept us up-to-date on the dynamic changes to the International Center in Florida.
Sunday began with early morning chanting, followed by bagels and snacks, and everyone worked hard until the program ended mid-afternoon.
